On February 5, 2026, City Council adopted the 2021 ICC Building Codes with local amendments. The new codes will become effective on April 1, 2026.
Why do we need new building codes?
Periodic updates ensure our codes align with current safety standards, incorporate modern construction methods, and account for advancing technologies – helping protect people, property, and long-term community investments.
What you should know:
There are no retroactive requirements for existing buildings or projects already under construction. Projects submitted after the effective date, April 1, 2026, must follow the new codes.
When in doubt – ask before you submit.
