Police Department Promotions
Congratulations to Sergeant Ryan O’Neil who was promoted to Deputy Chief of Patrol Operations on August 21st. Ryan began his career with the Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 2002 after working at another law enforcement agency. He was assigned to DuMEG as an undercover agent and then promoted to a squad leader. Upon his return, he worked as Wood Dale’s K-9 officer with his four-legged partner, Laika, for seven years. In 2017 he was promoted to Sergeant on the afternoon shift. He has also served as the Citizen’s Police Academy coordinator and a Field Training Officer. Ryan was named as Officer of the Year in 2003 and 2009.
Congratulations are also in order for Chris Zito, who was promoted to the position of Sergeant. Chris started at Wood Dale in 2003 and worked the past one and a half years as a Detective. He has also been a member of the DuPage County Felony Investigative Team, Major Crimes Task Force, and was the department’s Taser instructor. He has been extremely instrumental in the implementation of the new county-wide reporting writing system. Chris was Wood Dale’s Officer of the Year in 2007.
Both officers have also been recognized by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM) for their DUI arrests over the years. We are excited about the addition of these two individuals to the administrative staff. These promotions will create an opportunity for another individual to be hired as a new Wood Dale officer. These changes should also help allow the department to continue to serve the needs of our residents in the most effective manner.
