Wood Dale Chamber of Commerce and City of Wood Dale Award 2019 Scholarships

The City of Wood Dale in partnership with the Wood Dale Chamber of Commerce recently presented four high school seniors residing in Wood Dale with scholarships to be used for the advancement of their education. Each year the Chamber works with the local schools to identify worthy candidates to receive the $700 award. Students exemplify achievements in academics, community and school involvement and volunteer service.
The City of Wood Dale and Wood Dale Chamber of Commerce are proud to present this award to the following recipients:
Addison Trail High School Senior, Rafal Kaczowka
Mr. Kaczowka has participated in theatre, concert choir and band, served as the band librarian for the last two years, and was also a member of Tri-M, the National Honor Society for Music. Rafal played on the tennis team and was team captain for his senior year. Additionally, he was the editor-in-chief of the school yearbook, a participant in Letterman’s Club and Book Club and a member of the National Honor Society. Rafal is deciding between University of Illinois at Urbana and Michigan State.
Fenton High School Senior, Jeffrey Andrews
In addition to a full schedule of AP classes including US Government, Spanish, Chemistry, and Calculus, Jeffrey played football and tennis all four of his high school years, and basketball for three; achieving Captain, All-State Second Team, All Conference, MVP, and Practice Player of the Year. He was a member of the National honor society as well as a math tutor, and senior mentor. Graduating with a class rank of 4, Jeffrey plans to attend University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign to study actuarial sciences.
Fenton High School Senior, Kyle Cacioppo
Mr Cacioppo had a senior schedule that included AP Macro, and Micro Economics, AP English, AP Calculus, and physics. He played four years of football with credits such as All Conference, DuPage County Player of the Week, and Fenton Offensive Player of the Year. Add to this: three years of basketball, and one year each of baseball and tennis. He also was a member of the National Honor Society. Kyle plans to attend Illinois Wesleyan to major in business finance or accounting.
Fenton High School Senior, Hanna Matuszewski
Ms Matuszewski has a class rank of 18 and along with a schedule including AP English Lit, Studio Art, Psychology, Spanish and Calculus, she excelled in Track & Field making All- Conference since 2016. She also received the Metro Suburban All-Academic Award in Volleyball. In 2015 and 2018, she was awarded 1st Place at the Wood Dale Library Art Show. Her nearly 270 hours of community service include Special Olympics basketball, senior mentor, Interact, Bison Buddies, and the NEDSRA Track & Field Meet. She plans to attend Elmhurst College where she will study biochemistry.
