As summer kicks off and motor travel increases, the Wood Dale Police Department, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, reminds travelers to wear safety belts. A national “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign will be taking place beginning May 18, concurrent with the Memorial Day travel season. As always, the goal of the Wood Dale Police Department is to keep all motorists safe.

“We see firsthand the loss of life when people refuse to buckle up,” said Sergeant Michael Peters. “We want to make sure people do everything they can to stay safe in the event of a crash, not just during busy holiday weekends, but always.”

Illinois has a 93.8% observed seat belt usage rate, but a disproportionate number of fatalities and injuries involve unbelted motorists. Wood Dale Police enforce Illinois seat belt laws and will increase their vigilance during the heavy travel season.

“Seat belts save lives, and every vehicle occupant—front seat and back, child and adult—needs to remember to buckle up, every trip, every time,” said Peters. “Together, we can make zero fatalities a reality in Illinois.”
