The City of Wood Dale congratulations Wood Dale Deputy Chief Mike Rivas on his retirement from the Police Department.

During his 29-year career with Wood Dale, Deputy Chief Rivas served the community as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant and finally deputy chief. As the agency’s first accreditation manager, Rivas was responsible for leading the department in its first successful accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) back in 2001. He was involved in numerous community events including Special Olympics fundraisers and Wood Dale Police Night Out. He was an active member of the City’s Wood Dale for a Greener Tomorrow committee and organized several Green Fair events throughout the years. He worked closely with the local VFW to coordinate the Memorial Day Parade and Veteran’s Day events and served as vice president for the Wood Dale Police Pension Board.

In his most recent years, Deputy Chief Rivas was also a member of the DuPage County Incident Management Assistance Team, which is a multi-jurisdictional task force for response to emergencies in DuPage agencies, having participated in several mutual aid events and exercises. Rivas served as Deputy Chief of Operations for six years and Deputy Chief of Investigations for the last two years.

We wish Deputy Chief Rivas the best in his future and thank him for his years of dedicated service to the Wood Dale residents, City and Police Department.
