Wood Dale Police Remind You to Drive Safe Labor Day Weekend

Post Date:08/30/2018
DriveSoberThe end of summer is traditionally marked by the Labor Day holiday, often celebrated through picnics, pool parties and other gatherings. Sadly, the Labor Day holiday also can be one of the deadliest because of motor vehicle crashes related to drunk and drug-impaired drivers.

The Wood Dale Police Department is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation to help stop drunk and drug-impaired drivers in order to save lives. Wood Dale will be adding additional enforcement as part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign from August 21-September 5. Officers will be looking for seat-belt law violations and have zero tolerance for impaired driving.

“We want to make zero fatalities a reality here in Illinois,” said Wood Dale Sgt. Michael Peters.

National statistics show a frightening trend in drunk driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 10,000 people are killed annually in drunk-driving crashes. And sadly, that number is only going up. This is why Wood Dale is working with IDOT to remind drivers that drunk driving is not only illegal, it is a matter of life and death.
